What is Splash Adelaide?

Splash Adelaide has been bringing new life and colour to our city’s streets and spaces since December. Jointly funded by Adelaide City Council and the South Australian Government, this innovative pilot program has given local business and the community a chance to try out some new ideas.

What's Happening This Week?

13-19 February 2012

Alfresco Fridays in Leigh Street

It’s been feeling a little more European in Leigh Street where quality venues like Rigoni’s and Casablabla have brought their food and atmosphere out onto the street. And it’s not over yet.

The excitement will peak during the 2012 Adelaide Fringe which starts on 24 February. Expect an even bigger hive of activity as more people take to the streets to enjoy Alfresco Fridays in Leigh Street.

Summer Fridays in the East End

Pop down and check out the market stalls off Ebenezer Place where you can buy vintage clothes, hand-made jewellery, craft items and so much more. Enterprising street food vendors like The Little Van That Could and Burger Theory sell yummy food such as burgers and homemade lemonade, peach and raspberry drinks.  Street markets and live music give the night even more of a fun summer vibe.

Look for Summer Fridays in the East End on Facebook. You will find all the Splash Adelaide info and you might find yourself or your friends in the picture gallery. Check it out at facebook.com/Summer-Fridays-in-the-East-End

Ride-a-Bike Right

It’s easy to ride a bike. But learn how to Ride-a-Bike Right in the South West Parklands (Edwards Park) on Anzac Highway this Saturday, 18 February. Ride-a-Bike-Right is all about making cycling safer by teaching cycling and road safety to small groups, families, individuals and anyone who loves their bike. This is a nationally accredited Cycle Education Provider course so the team is pretty expert in teaching bike-riding skills and giving you tips on how to be confident and stay upright.

Charming Chesser Street

Have you checked out the Chesser Street transformation as part of Splash Adelaide?

The historic laneway is showcasing the best of Adelaide with outdoor dining furnished with bright blue lanterns, artificial grass, wine barrels and planters. The design was inspired by the history and heritage architecture of Chesser Street, one of the city’s best laneways.  Timber sleepers and pallets that serve as benches have nautical style.

Head down for lunch, find a shady spot, read a book, have a chat or grab a coffee from The Perfect Cup and let us know when you think. The landmark Chesser Cellar restaurant and bar is bringing dining and live music into the street. Enjoy Chesser Street at its best until the end of March.

Splash Adelaide Profile: La Waffle or Love Waffle?

Adelaide has come alive, and our taste buds are getting in on the action too, with street vendors offering delicious, quality produce from mobile vans. We’re starting to become very spoilt for choice.

La Waffle is one of Splash Adelaide’s newest recruits to tingle our taste buds.

You can see Aurélie Maldague, the owner of La Waffle, cook up one of her popular Liege Waffles just for you. Made from dough and pearl sugar - which is imported straight from Belgium to give it that extra caramel goodness - you can top it with melted Belgian chocolate, berries, vanilla ice cream or, if you want to be really indulgent…all of the above … yum!

A native of Belgium, Aurélie hails from a town about 30km south of Brussels called Ottignies, where she grew up with a Dutch father and a French mother. In 2008, she left Belgium for Sydney where she began her La Waffle business. In 2010 Aurélie fell in love and after a year the pair decided something had to be done about their blooming love - thankfully for us, he was from Adelaide…Sydney’s loss was our gain! Now Gawler Place Plaza regularly reaps the benefits of her chocolatey Belgian goodness.
